“Women’s Prayers – Redemption”: Fenia Papadodima at Half Note Jazz Club

1 min read

Brasilian Jazz & Heritage of the World

Fenia Papadodima returns to the Half Note on Wednesday, March 12, with the concert “Women’s Prayers – Redemption.” Guided as always by the voices of women who marked an era with their sound and interpretation, this time she presents her own original compositions, inspired by the echoes of Brazilian bossa nova, along with well-known and beloved songs from the broader Brazilian jazz scene, featuring repertoire by Ellis Regina, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Flora Purim, as well as Cesaria Evora and music from Cape Verde, plus Mediterranean songs reimagined in a jazz idiom.

Within this warm atmosphere, the multicolored palette of melodies carries the listener from Latin America to the East, making stops in New York, Paris, Alexandria, and Smyrna. The world’s musical traditions blend together, and the songs take on a new, original sound through a fresh, improvisational approach, thanks to the leading musicians Andreas Polyzogopoulos, Giorgos Palamiotis, Raphael Meleteas, and Panagiotis Kostopoulos. Together, they form a unique Jazz & Heritage of the World ensemble a musical experience in which diverse traditions are redefined through a contemporary and unexpected sound.

Deeply influenced by pioneering vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Jazz & Heritage movement, Papadodima fuses Afro-American and Afro-Brazilian music with European, Mediterranean, Sephardic, and Eastern traditions.

Many of these songs have become timeless because they were loved by audiences worldwide over the decades. For the women who sang them, they served as prayers and invocations for freedom, peace, love, tenderness, and acceptance resonating deeply with human consciousness throughout the last century. Prayers of women all over the world.
