One of the most distinctive cinematic experiences in the Aegean returns this summer as Cine Kalisperitis, the award-winning travelling open-air cinema of the Kimolos Experience Festival, unveils its programme of screenings and special guest appearances from 10 July to 28 August 2026.
Rather than using a conventional cinema venue, Cine Kalisperitis transforms some of Kimolos’ most secluded beaches into enchanting outdoor screening spaces. Award-winning filmmakers, screenwriters and actors whose work has been connected with the festival will introduce their films and meet audiences, creating memorable evenings beneath the island’s star-filled sky.
Where nature becomes the perfect film set
When the natural landscape meets cinematic storytelling, the volunteer group Kimolistes creates an atmosphere unlike any other. Every screening features a unique artistic installation designed by Fotis Marinakis, turning each beach into an ephemeral open-air theatre.
The setting includes:
- 500 solar lanterns hanging from tamarisk trees
- 100 torches marking the entrances to the “cinema beaches”
- 200 candles illuminating the landscape among the rocks and the audience
- A different scenographic concept for every screening
Beyond cinema, the Kimolistes promote Kimolos’ cultural and natural heritage through book presentations, the travelling Library Boats, environmental documentaries, musical events and traditional island festivals.
