A band that will open the season at the Half Note Jazz Club with the best of omens and a lot of energy

Start of the season 24′-25′ of very intense and high dance rhythms at the Half Note Jazz Club. The amazing Cuban pianist and new star of the historic Blue Note Records, Harold López-Nussa, and his incomparable band introduce us to the city’s jazz scene. From Friday 11 to Monday 14 October.

The versatile Harold López-Nussa is a diamond in contemporary Latin jazz, musically unleashing the clave of the Afro-Cuban tradition in the best possible way, adapting it to the present day through modern compositional structures and strong post-bop elements, creating states of excitement wherever he performs. He will be joined by his All Star Trio and (for two nights) by the Grammy-winning harmonica player Grégoire Maret, who will be presenting his latest work, Timba A La Americana!

A few words about Harold López-Nussa

Born in Havana, he studied at various music schools and academies in Cuba and ended up playing at a very young age with musical giants such as Omara Portuondo, Kelvis Ochoa, Chucho Valdes, Yusa and even with bands such as Klimax and Buena Vista Social Club. His instinct and willingness, almost obsession, to learn new things has led him to experiment more with jazz and the evolution of Latin jazz with his own expressive means.

In 2007 he recorded his first album, “Canciones”, and toured the world’s best stages with his trio. In the following years he will release eight more excellent albums with different labels. Almost 3 years ago, due to the economic and political volatility in Cuba, he decided to change his base and move his family to his grandmother’s birthplace in the South of France.

Harold Lopez Nussa

During his many concerts, López-Nussa will meet Don Was, musician and president of Blue Note Records, who will propose him to join the historic label. López-Nussa will invite his friend and Snarky Puppy leader Michael League to produce his new Latin Jazz material, filtering Cuban musical influences & traditions in a new way and from a distance. This wondrous collaboration will be the basis for the amazing album Timba A La Americana, with which Harold López-Nussa has headlined the biggest festivals.

In these first concerts in Greece at the Half Note Jazz Club, from 11th to 14th October, the one and only Harold López-Nussa will be joined by his exceptional trio made up of the exceptional bassist Thibaud Soulas & his unreal drummer and brother, Ruy Adrian López-Nussa.

On 13 and 14 October, they will be joined by the delightful harmonica player Grégoire Maret, who has worked with Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny and Prince. A band that will open the season at the Half Note Jazz Club with the best of omens and a lot of energy.

We will take revenge with timba… a la Greca?
