In THIS THAT KEEPS ON, Dimitris Papaioannou summons images and chimera-like bodies from four decades of his work, regenerating them into a deeply personal narrative
Marking the beginning of the celebrations for its 40th anniversary, the Museum of Cycladic Art presents a unique fundraising event at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on October 3rd. The evening features THIS THAT KEEPS ON – a personal archaeology, a new creation by Dimitris Papaioannou, conceived exclusively for the Museum of Cycladic Art and presented for one night only.
Responding to the Museum’s commission, Papaioannou reimagines fragments from his most beloved works, interweaving them with new ideas into an original dramaturgy. Thirty dancers and actors bring to life his hybrid creatures on stage, activating the space with the distinctive style that has established him as one of the most influential contemporary creators worldwide.
In THIS THAT KEEPS ON, Papaioannou summons images and chimera-like bodies from four decades of artistic work, regenerating them alongside entirely new elements of moving images and sculptural installations in a deeply personal narrative. Through bodies and materials, the performance explores the notions of memory, excavation, fragility, sensuality, unity, ancestry, and the unmediated joy of life, all set within the unique historical, geological, and artistic landscape of the Cyclades. Designed as a living dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary, this new work becomes a synthesis and reinvention of the rich material of a multifaceted artist, built upon Papaioannou’s uncompromising discipline in style, form, and expressive means.

This one-time fundraising event offers a limited number of seats exclusively for Friends and Supporters of the Museum, with all proceeds dedicated to the creation of the new Museum of Cycladic Art.
In parallel, and within the framework of its ongoing educational mission, Dimitris Papaioannou and the Museum of Cycladic Art will offer a significant number of free tickets to students of fine arts, dance, theatre, music, design, cinema, art history, and scenography.
The Museum is embarking on a journey of “Metamorphosis”, envisioning an ambitious future that will radically enhance the collective visitor experience while shaping an architectural and cultural landmark that will leave a lasting imprint on both the international and local community.
Honoring its 40-year anniversary, the Museum is undergoing a profound transformation-inside and out-redefining its role as a dynamic, inclusive, and immersive cultural hub. More details about the “Metamorphosis” of the Museum of Cycladic Art will be announced soon.
