Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall hosts, on Thursday 19 February at 20:00, a screening of the recorded theatrical production of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, as presented at the Lyttelton Theatre in London.
“There is something rotten in the state of Denmark.” Trapped between duty and doubt, surrounded by a world of power, privilege, and moral decay, the young Prince Hamlet articulates the most famous existential question in world drama.
In a refined and incisive adaptation infused with dark humor, the production bears the directorial signature of Robert Hastie, Deputy Artistic Director of the National Theatre. With a contemporary lens and striking psychological precision, the direction illuminates the play’s contradictions and presents Hamlet as a hero of perpetual questioning, caught in a world undergoing moral collapse.
In the title role, Olivier Award–winning actor Hiran Abeysekera delivers a bold and multi-layered performance, embodying the tragic prince with intensity, sensitivity, and an elusive inner life that renders this interpretation of Hamlet profoundly contemporary.
