“The 365 Project”: Michael Petry presents a new work at the Vorres Museum

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 12:30, the presentation of Michael Petry’s work will open at the Vorres Museum, as part of the “The 365 Project” program.

Civil War Painting Number 17 (CWP#17)

Measuring 2 meters in height and 10 meters in length, the work is the result of a three-week residency at the Vorres Museum.

Petry’s work continues his artistic investigation into the current U.S. government’s alleged attempt to provoke an open civil war, through the occupation of cities by troops and armed masked figures demanding to check citizens’ papers-an image chillingly reminiscent of Berlin in 1939.

The work clearly references Pablo Picasso’s major anti-war painting Guernica (nearly 8 meters long), both in scale and subject matter, while also connecting to civil wars and military occupation within Greece itself.

CWP#17 exists between painting and installation, as it has been created specifically for the 365 Project space at the museum.

Petry has added three colors to his palette that directly evoke Greece: the ochre of the earth, the terracotta of roof tiles, and the blue of the Aegean sky.

The work also functions as a queer dialogue with the large camouflage paintings of Andy Warhol, created shortly before his death. Petry chooses to physically paint his gestures, in contrast to Warhol’s use of silkscreen, placing CWP#17 in conversation with other large-scale works such as Water Lilies.

Petry is known for his multilayered approach to creation-whether in sculpture, painting, or installation-and this new work is certainly large enough to sustain such a complex conceptual load.

“The 365 Project” program, in which a different artist is invited every two months to create and present a new work in dialogue with the museum’s collection, is curated by Olga Daniilopoulou.
