The exhibition Retrospectives: Selections from the Vorres Museum Collection proposes a contemporary reading of the collection through thematic sections that highlight its relevance today, moving beyond a conventional chronological display. Bringing together works from the postwar period to the late 20th century, it sheds light on lesser-known or underrepresented aspects of the collection – featuring works by Lili Arlioti, Giorgos Ioannou, Valerios Kaloutsis, and Dimitris Dokatzis – while simultaneously reframing works by artists such as Alexis Akrithakis, Panos Valsamakis, Niki Kanagini, and Jannis Kounellis, among others.
Tracing contemporary concerns through the lens of the past reveals both their origins and their enduring relevance. Issues that feel urgent today – such as technological developments, public space, the environment, migration, and gender identities – are explored, highlighting their deeper historical continuity. The approaches of Greek artists demonstrate that the second half of the 20th century did not follow a linear trajectory, but was shaped through constant oscillations: between introspection and expression, cohesion and conflict. Within these dynamic tensions, one can recognize both the roots and the vitality of contemporary Greek art, along with the affinities and contradictions that continue to define it.

The exhibition opens a dialogue with history, offering an opportunity for a renewed perspective on the recent past. It invites the public to reflect on how artists, across generations, give form and meaning to uncertainty. At the same time, it marks the beginning of a retrospective journey into modern Greek art, bringing to light forgotten or unresolved debts to the past.
