The CL Art Gallery Athens presents, for the first time in Greece, the Italian artist Giancarlo Caponi with his solo exhibition “Stories Told to Myself”, opening on Thursday, September 11.
Caponi’s painting is not a simple representation of reality but rather a passage into worlds where dreams take shape. In each of his works, figures, landscapes, and objects are transformed into symbols of freedom and imagination. Through vivid and often unexpected colors, Caponi creates a universe delicately balanced between the real and the dreamlike, the material and the intangible. It is a world where silences, glances, and pauses become part of a visual musical composition – one infused with poetry, mystery, and playful fantasy.
The exhibition “Stories Told to Myself” is an invitation to the viewer to step into this poetic universe, to discover stories that began as the artist’s personal reflections and evolve into shared dreams, open to endless interpretation.

About Giancarlo Caponi
Giancarlo Caponi was born in 1946 in Fucecchio, near Florence, where he still lives and works today. A distinctive, self-taught painter, he began creating at the age of twelve, using canvases he made himself. From a young age, he traveled extensively across Europe, fascinated by languages and museums, and later expanded his journeys across the globe.
With over six decades of artistic exploration, Caponi has exhibited his work in major venues in Italy and internationally. His first solo exhibition took place in 1965 at the Aminta Gallery in Siena, followed by numerous solo and group shows in Florence, Milan, Rome, Lucca, and Livorno, as well as in international destinations such as Barcelona, Oslo, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Moscow.

His works are part of private collections in Italy, Russia, India, China, and Spain, and are also housed in museums and institutions including the Jintai Museum in Beijing, the Museum of Modern Art in Shenzhen, the Gorbachev Foundation in Moscow, and the Alexandra Corporation Gallery in Minneapolis, USA.
