French artist Céleste Rogosin has been selected for the inaugural artist residency jointly organised by the two institutions on the Cycladic island of Andros.
A new artist residency programme is bringing contemporary artistic research to the Cycladic island of Andros. The French Institute of Greece and the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation have announced the launch of their first joint residency, selecting French visual artist Céleste Rogosin as its inaugural participant.
Conceived as a platform for artistic exchange, the initiative is open to French artists-or artists based in France-working primarily in painting and photography. The programme offers a dedicated period for research and creation while encouraging dialogue between the French and Greek contemporary art scenes in the unique setting of Andros.
The selection committee brought together leading figures from the international art world, including Fleurette Karadonti, Chair of the Board of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation; art historian and former Centre Pompidou director Alfred Pacquement; Aude Raimbault, Head of Collections at the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation; and acclaimed Greek painter George Rorris, the Foundation’s first fellow. The jury was chaired by Laurence Auer, Ambassador of France to Greece.
Based in Paris, Céleste Rogosin is a visual artist whose practice moves between video art and installation. After initially exploring the relationship between cinema and the performing arts-including dance and theatre-she developed a body of work that investigates the presence of the human body in space through the lens of contemporary technologies.
Her work has been supported by major French cultural institutions, including the CNAP (Centre National des Arts Plastiques), Grand Paris, the Fondation des Artistes, and the CNC (French National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image). She has also participated in artist residencies such as the Pinault Collection in Lens. In 2025, she presented her first solo exhibition at Frac Grand Large, and in 2026 she was among the recipients of the Talent contemporain award presented by the Schneider Foundation.
The residency will take place on Andros from 25 September to 25 October 2026. Throughout the month-long programme, Rogosin will work in a dedicated studio while staying in accommodation provided by the Goulandris Foundation. She will also receive tailored curatorial and institutional support from both partner organisations, enabling her to further develop her artistic research.
By launching this residency, the French Institute of Greece and the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation reaffirm their commitment to supporting contemporary artistic practice, encouraging international artistic mobility and strengthening cultural ties between France and Greece. The programme also establishes Andros as a new point of reference for artistic production and dialogue in the Aegean.
