Kourd Gallery presents the first solo exhibition by Konstantinos Sakellariou, titled Land of Ambiguity, inviting the public to discover the work of a young artist who offers a fresh perspective on surrealist forms. The exhibition is curated by Eleni Varopoulou.
Remaining faithful to its mission of showcasing emerging Greek artists, the gallery hosts nine works by the debuting Sakellariou, who recently graduated from the School of Fine Arts at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and stands out for the dynamic expressiveness and sculptural quality of his figures. Staying true to a restrained color palette, the artist creates worlds that blend the everyday with the fantastical, while his paintings engage in a creative dialogue with the tradition of surrealism.
As the exhibition’s curator, Eleni Varopoulou, notes:
Various forms, scattered or intertwined with one another, depict hybrid creatures and enchanted beasts. Skeletons or fossilized bones. Objects that have left the familiar environment of a room, the known places, to journey into the unknown, freed from the laws of gravity. This gathering of unexpected figures, as it invites the viewer to unravel the strange clusters, to observe the nightmarish merging of disparate animal forms, and to reflect on the encounter between the wild, the unreal, and the everyday, becomes a meditation on the surrealist epic bequeathed to us by the twentieth century.
