The virtuoso lute player from Crete, Giorgis Manolakis, takes the stage at THEATRE OF THE NO on Saturday, October 25 at 21:30, for a unique evening where the musical tradition of Crete blends with improvisation and contemporary sonic explorations.
The program promises to be rich and multidimensional, featuring Manolakis’ own compositions, traditional Cretan music, as well as electric sounds from the projects Couleur Locale and Nefalo. In addition, musical elements reminiscent of the great Markos Vamvakaris will be heard.
Sharing the stage with him are two outstanding musicians: Nikos Sidirokastritis on drums and Dimitris Tsekouras on double bass. Together, they create a powerful, dynamic trio, promising an electrifying musical journey.
Born in Heraklion, Crete, Manolakis grew up in a musical family and from the age of eight studied under his father, Kostas Manolakis, a master of the lyra and lute. His first major public appearance was with Hainides, which opened the way for concerts in Greece and abroad, while his collaboration with Ross Daly continues to this day. In 2009, he released his first personal album, confirming his place as one of the leading creators in the contemporary Cretan music scene.
