Summer in the Atrium: Yian Van Angelopoulos & Fotis Siotas at STOA Culture

1 min read

As part of its Summer in the Atrium programme, STOA Culture, with PPC as Grand Sponsor, welcomes Yian Van Angelopoulos and Fotis Siotas for a unique musical encounter that reimagines the Greek musical tradition through a contemporary hybrid sound.

Drawing inspiration from the archetypal form of the traditional Greek zygia ensemble, the duo explores rhythms, melodies and improvisations rooted in Greece’s rich musical heritage. Improvisation-an essential element of every folk music tradition—lies at the heart of their collaboration, transforming each performance into a living, ever-evolving musical experience.

Blending acoustic instruments with elements of contemporary pop and dance culture, including electronic effects, deep bass frequencies and modular synthesizers, the two musicians create an original sonic landscape where tradition and modernity coexist organically. The result is a hybrid acoustic and electronic sound that remains deeply connected to its Greek musical origins while opening new aesthetic pathways.

Yian Van Angelopoulos, on drums and modular synthesizers, and Fotis Siotas, on violin and vocals, present a performance that moves fluidly between tradition, improvisation and contemporary sound-making, celebrating music as a living language in constant transformation.

Set within the distinctive historic and architectural surroundings of STOA Culture, the concert forms part of the venue’s ongoing summer programme, which brings together artistic voices that bridge heritage and contemporary creation, transforming the Atrium of the Arsakeio Arcade into an open meeting place for diverse forms of artistic expression in the heart of Athens.
