Sophie Lies and Nefeli Walking Undercover unite their sonic worlds for an evening at St. Paul’s Anglican Church

Sophie Lies and Nefeli Walking Undercover bring together their sonic universes in an evening of tender pop-folk chamber music and idiosyncratic storytelling. Through dreamlike keyboard textures, narrative-driven guitars, and earthy violins, the two singer-songwriters will present a shared set featuring moments from their discographies, alongside unreleased compositions and new musical settings.

With the human voice as their primary vehicle, they will unfold stories of light and darkness, identity in its many expressions, solitude and melancholy, but also the small, glimmering comforts found in people and things.

About the artists

Nefeli Liouta was born and raised in Nea Filadelfeia, Athens, with roots in Rizoma (Trikala), Politika (Evia), and Argyrochorio (Ioannina), as well as influences from Balkan polyphony, Far Eastern pentatonics, and the interwoven violins of Gaelic landscapes.

She holds a violin diploma, a law degree from the University of Athens, and a master’s degree in Art Law & Cultural Management, specializing in the preservation of musical heritage in the digital age. She works as a violin and ensemble teacher for children, while also being active as a composer, lyricist, arranger, performer, and creator of musical tales.

She releases music under the name Nefeli Walking Undercover. In her work, she redefines the warmth of classical instruments through a blend of hypnotic rhythmic patterns, dusty guitars, airy vocals, timeless analog keys, and fresh electronic atmospheres. Her narratives draw inspiration from open fields and urban melancholy, human warmth and loneliness, illuminated windows at dusk, and the eruptions within the ruins of history.

Nefeli has released five (and a half) albums plus one soundtrack, and has collaborated with numerous institutions and artists, including the Athens State Orchestra, Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall, the Hellenic Project, Onassis Stegi, El Sistema Greece, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, among others. Her latest release, Elements of a Timeless World, came out in spring 2025, produced by Stavros Georgiopoulos and Sergios Voudris, featuring Phoebus Delivorias, Sophie Lies, Alexandros Kapsokavades, and a diverse group of musicians.

In December 2011, she was awarded First Prize and Best Lyrics at the Greek Song Creation Awards by the Onassis Foundation. She has also participated in the “Agoni Grammi Gonimi” program, teaching violin in remote Greek islands, and worked as a volunteer writer for the cultural section of the newspaper Eleftherotypia. She loves analog photography, collage, homemade doughs, and mixtapes, and directs some of her own music videos. She also hosts a podcast series titled Matchy Matchy within the Shake n’ Bake universe.

Maria Sahpasidi was born in Athens and studied music and philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She writes songs and poetry under the artistic name Sophie Lies, while also working as a music educator, teaching piano.

She has released two solo albums: A Stone Like Home (2020) and The Other Side of Habit (2024). She is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Saligari, and a member of the feminist collective Mav Medouses, focusing on gender and literature.

Throughout her career, she has collaborated discographically with contemporary artists such as Usurum, Paidi Trauma, Astrogono, Stavros Tsantes, Seirene 0-100, Nefeli Walking Undercover, and Ta Kanonika Paidia. She has also shared the stage with artists including Mazoha, Danai Nielsen, Nalyssa Green, Paidi Trauma, Despoinis Trichromi, SWIM, Djingovic, Fotis Siotas, Chara, Taf Lathos, Lamda, Phoebus Delivorias, and Amalia and the Architects.

She composed the end credits song for the film Afternoon (2021) by Alexis Koukiás, as well as the full soundtrack for Aerolin (2023). She has participated in tribute albums such as Meta: Tribute to Manos Loizos (Minos EMI, 2022), and in April 2023 took part in the concert ANATELLO, curated by Giannis Aggelakas for emerging artists. In September 2024, she participated in the interdisciplinary literature and poetry festival SARDAM in Cyprus.

In theatre, she has appeared as a performer in the music-theatre production War Correspondents, directed by Christos Thanos, presented at the Athens Epidaurus Festival in summer 2025.

Her professional interests, guided by poetry, music, and pedagogy, include studies in music therapy, music education, linguistics, and literary translation. She completed the 9-month program “Music and Art with Socially Vulnerable Groups” at the University of Macedonia in 2022, and is currently completing her postgraduate studies in Social Pedagogy and Social Neuroscience.
