The 1st Percussion Festival of the GNO Alternative Stage

The first Percussion Festival of the GNO Alternative Stage unfurls before us the full spectrum of this fascinating sound-world, in a series of events ranging from special workshops and masterclasses to unique concerts with distinguished ensembles and soloists, and from the most enchanting traditions of world music to the most sophisticated aspects of Western modernity.

Exploring the innately democratic nature of percussive sound production, the Festival hosts an eclectic series of educational options: experiential body percussion workshops for children, workshops on the sensory perception of sound and self-motivation, presentations on world music styles such as percussion music from the Eastern Mediterranean, Africa and Japan, the traditions of flamenco, samba and colonial American drumming, as well as masterclasses on marimba, vibraphone and timpani playing as well as analogue and digital drum sound processing.

At the same time, the GNO Alternative Stage’s audience will have the chance to enjoy a rich concert schedule featuring important performers, companies, and musical ensembles.
