Zoumboulakis Gallery presents the new solo exhibition of Stefanos Rokos entitled “50.000.000 tons of landscapes” from 20 March to 17 April 2025. The exhibition will feature mixed media works on canvas and paper, three sculptures and an animation.
Stefanos Rokos notes: “In my new work, 50,000,000 Tons of Landscapes is a naive and erroneous definition of the volume, extent, weight, majesty and power of landscapes – especially compared to the short stories of people standing unequally in front of a huge mountain or a noisy rushing waterfall.”
As EKPA professor and translator Maria Papadima writes in her essay for the exhibition book, “At what point does man become part of the landscape? When he sees it and is enchanted and overwhelmed, and wants to penetrate it, to creep into it, to sneak into it, to get to know its most hidden corners, to get lost in some aspect of it, underground or above ground, or to occupy its most central position, a hill, a square, a bridge, an entire state, where he will meet his peers and join them, crossing waterfalls and mountains, thinning out or piling up buildings; It can choose to exercise the sovereign rights of the multitude over itself, or to remain tiny and latent, ultimately a manifest or invisible part of the landscape. “

In February 2025, Jim Sclavunos and Nick Cave recorded the musical work ‘Landscape’ as the original soundtrack for the animation ‘50,000,000 Tons of Landscape’, directed, performed and designed by Stefanos Rokos. The animation will be shown during the exhibition.
During the exhibition, the book “50.000.000 tons of landscapes”, published by Stereoma Publications on the occasion of the exhibition of Stephanos Rokos, will be available for sale. It is a bilingual (Greek/English) art book/excerpt with paintings and sculptures by Rokos and texts by Stefanos Rokos, Maria Papadima (professor at the University of Athens, translator) and Michael Berryhill (visual artist). The chapters of the book are accompanied by poems by poet and translator Danae Siozios.
The limited edition of the book (150 stamped copies) includes 20×15 cm silkscreen prints on Munken Print Cream 300gsm paper, signed and numbered. The silkscreens are hand designed by Stefanos Rocco and printed by Chrysanthos and Manolis Angelakis at tind atelier for Stereoma Publications and the exhibition “50,000,000 tons of landscapes” at Zoumboulakis Gallery.
