“AWE 2025”: 90 autonomous canvases forming a monumental, portable painting by Tsoclis, opening a parallel universe of wonder and uncertainty

The Kostas Tsoclis Museum presents, at the former Public Tobacco Factory, the artist’s new visual work titled “AWE 2025.”
At 95 years of age, Tsoclis continues to create with the passion of a pioneer, proposing a work inspired by contemporary technology. It is also the largest portable painting ever realized in Greece (14m in height x 17m in width), composed of 90 individual, autonomous canvases.

The Public Tobacco Factory, an emblematic industrial building of the interwar period, now hosts services and cultural initiatives of the Hellenic Parliament, and in recent years has emerged as a significant venue for contemporary dialogue between art, history, and society.

Within this space, Tsoclis presents a deeply existential and philosophical work. The artist notes:

“This work was made to express admiration and anxiety. I wanted it to be a parallel Universe. Not in imitation of what exists, but inspired by it. Admiration for the infinite possibilities of Nature, and fear of possible mistakes of false associations and human commands. It is also a testimony of acknowledging the need for a new reality, a new ignorance, and therefore a new effort to learn. These undefined and incomplete forms that you see are, for me, a new reading of the Universe, which is always in search of its next form.”

The exhibition is curated by Chrysanthi Koutsouraki, Director of the Kostas Tsoclis Museum.
