“Forever Fish” by Aristidis Lappas at The Breeder Gallery: Aquatic worlds as spaces of healing, transformation, and ecological interdependence

1 min read

The Breeder gallery presents the solo exhibition of Aristidis Lappas, “Forever Fish.” The exhibition continues the artist’s exploration of aquatic worlds as spaces of healing, transformation, and ecological interdependence.

Works previously shown at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen in Germany (Gift of the Moon Crab, 2024) are presented in Greece for the first time, alongside new pieces created especially for the gallery.

The title “Forever Fish” refers to the so-called “forever chemicals” that persist in ecosystems without breaking down, highlighting both the ecological and psychological dimensions of Lappas’ work. While in Germany the moon crab led viewers into the subconscious, in Athens the fish becomes a symbol of resilience and vulnerability, illuminating our deep connection to water and marine life.

Working across multiple media – painting, sculpture, murals, and installations – Lappas creates immersive environments that merge figuration and abstraction. River and sea creatures drift between myth and reality, while his spatial interventions invite viewers into a multisensory experience. In “Forever Fish,” water emerges as a source of life, a vessel of memory, and a bearer of human traces. The exhibition functions as a living ecosystem, where the vitality of forms balances with the awareness of fragility. Lappas speaks of “the language of healing,” inviting the audience to dive into a world where care, pain, and transformation are collectively experienced.

Aristidis Lappas (b. Athens, 1993) lives and works between Athens and London. He studied at the University of the West of England, Bristol (UK), and at the Accademia di Belle Arti, Bologna (Italy). He is currently based in London, pursuing his MFA in Art & Ecology at Goldsmiths University.

His work has been exhibited widely, including:

  • Gift of the Moon Crab, Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, Germany (2024, solo)
  • Seven Days in New Crete, The Breeder, Athens (2023, solo)
  • Tenderness of a Cutting Sword, The Breeder, Athens (2020, solo)
  • Theorem 2, EMST, Athens (2020, group)
  • Break Time Contemplations, Transformer, Washington D.C. (2018, group)

In 2022, he created She Who Protects, a mural at Omonia Square, commissioned by the Onassis Foundation’s Stegi. He has participated in numerous residencies, including St.A.I.R. in Graz, Austria, the Tryfon Art Residency in Lesvos, and the Thermia Project in Kythnos, among others. His work was also featured in the 7th Athens Biennale, Eclipse (2021).
