A two-day environmental awareness event featuring talks, exhibitions, screenings, music, and a wide range of activities at the Stavros Niarchos Park

The SNFCC Green Weekend returns on September 20 & 21 for its fourth consecutive year, transforming the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) into a vibrant space of dialogue, coexistence, and creativity around urgent environmental, social, and cultural issues.

This year’s edition, titled Urgent Conversations | Επείγουσες Συζητήσεις, focuses on the pressing need to position – or reposition – ourselves in relation to critical questions concerning our future and sustainability.

With an emphasis on talks, workshops, educational activities, and interactive experiences, the SNFCC Green Weekend is enriched by a dynamic artistic program: exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, performances, and hands-on activities for all ages, highlighting environmental challenges while proposing collective solutions through collaboration, participation, and innovation.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy free admission to a wide range of events taking place across the Stavros Niarchos Park – from the Mediterranean Garden and the Great Lawn to the Green Roofs, Vegetable Garden, Pine Grove, and the Southern Walks.

Highlights from the Program

Keynote Speech by Lenio Myrivili

Extreme Heat: The Silent Killer
Internationally recognized for her work on climate resilience, Lenio Myrivili, Global Chief Heat Officer at UN-Habitat and the Atlantic Council Climate Resilience Center, opens the Green Weekend with a powerful keynote on the escalating climate-induced heat crisis. Her talk addresses the severe health, social, and environmental impacts of extreme heat and proposes adaptive strategies for cities worldwide.

Experts, policymakers, and civil society representatives join a series of urgent conversations on issues including:

  • Water resource management
  • Overtourism and its impact on ecosystems and communities
  • Climate anxiety and the psychological dimensions of the environmental crisis
  • Overfishing and the protection of marine biodiversity
  • Food waste and smart prevention strategies
  • Zero-waste practices and circular approaches to consumption

These discussions aim to deepen understanding, foster critical thinking, and encourage active participation, inspiring practical solutions and innovative responses.

Live Concert | Microclimata: CV & JAB

Composer and visual artist Christina Vantzou collaborates with flutist and multi-instrumentalist John Also Bennett for an ambient performance designed specifically for the open-air setting of the festival.

The duo creates immersive soundscapes balancing minimalism, spectral harmony, and psychoacoustic experience, using analog instruments, voice, field recordings, and delicate melodic structures that deconstruct and recombine in real time.

Set against the backdrop of the SNFCC Park, the performance unfolds as a live sonic installation, inviting the audience into a rare listening experience – open to the flow of nature, sound, and silence.

Short Film Screenings

In collaboration with the Drama International Short Film Festival (DISFF), the SNFCC Green Weekend presents a curated selection of short fiction and documentary films that explore stories of environmental awareness, amplifying the power of cinema as a tool for environmental storytelling.
