On the occasion of World Human Rights Day, Flux Laboratory, in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Greece, presents the performance A Weight I Could Not Bear.
With the research expertise of Anastasio Koukoutas and the choreographic guidance of Markella Manoliadi, 40 dancers from the Flux School participate in a performance that seeks to highlight the importance and defense of the universal, starting from the paradox of food waste and fast fashion.
The performance aims to highlight the issue of overconsumption and the unequal distribution of goods, focusing on the environmental and societal groups whose quality of life is drastically degraded due to the impact of these phenomena. At the same time, it emphasizes the “right to an adequate standard of living,” as defined in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, bringing food and clothing into dialogue with the major issue of our time: climate change and environmental pollution.
The creative team of A Weight I Could Not Bear notes, among other things, in their artistic statement: ‘’After all, how can we now talk about the inalienable right to life without taking into account our planet as a necessary condition for life itself, in all of its forms? It is an unbearable weight that we are called upon to handle immediately, all together. ‘’
