The Acropolis Museum welcomes spring with a unique chamber music concert at the Parthenon Gallery on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as part of the “Musical Strolls” series organized by the Athens State Orchestra.
The Woodwind Quintet of the Athens State Orchestra (Vangelis Stathoulopoulos, Christina Pantelidou, Spyros Mourikis, Odysseas Basios, Grigoris Asonitis), joined by Dimitris Desyllas on percussion, will perform two renowned works arranged for this ensemble.
The program brings into dialogue Antonín Dvořák and Manos Hadjidakis, two composers who may seem worlds apart, yet share a deep sense of lyricism and melodic beauty. Beyond the irresistible charm of their music, they also share another common thread: both spent several years in the United States, specifically in New York – Dvořák from 1892 to 1895 and Hadjidakis from 1966 to 1972.
The works featured in the concert – arranged for woodwind ensemble – were composed on American soil and have since become beloved examples of each composer’s output. Dvořák’s “American” Quartet is a cornerstone of the chamber music repertoire and one of the Czech Romantic composer’s most celebrated works, while Hadjidakis’ The Smile of the Gioconda continues to move audiences with its genuine sense of nostalgia.

Online reservations open on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Due to limited availability, participation requires an online reservation via
events.theacropolismuseum.gr and the purchase of a €10 ticket at the Museum ticket desks on the day of the event, between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., upon presentation of the reservation code at ticket desks 6, 7, and 8.
If tickets are not collected on time, the reservation will be released and offered to other visitors. Admission to the event requires presentation of your ticket at the Information Desk.
The event includes a guided tour of the exhibition spaces with a Museum archaeologist at 5:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 7:00 p.m. in the Parthenon Gallery.
