An exhibition celebrating the dynamism and innovation of contemporary African art
Roma Gallery is honoured to present Voices of Africa, an exhibition celebrating the dynamism and innovation of contemporary African art. Featuring works by a distinguished group of artists – Aboudia Abdoulaye Diarrassouba, Sejiro Avoseh, Amadou Opa Bathily, Amani Bodo, Armand Boua, Salifou Lindou, Boris Nzebo, Hyacinthe Quattara, Yeanzi Saint Etienne, Adjei Tawiah – the exhibition reflects the vibrancy, complexity and diversity of today’s African artistic landscape.
Through an abundance of vibrant colours, intricate textures and bold compositions, Voices of Africa captures the essence of a continent on the move. The works weave together narratives of identity, urbanisation and cultural innovation, offering a perspective on the multiple realities, both real and imagined, of contemporary Africa.

The complexity of identity
The exhibition explores the complex and multifaceted nature of identity as expressed through the gaze of contemporary African artists. Boris Nzebo’s works combine traditional portraiture with urban landscape painting, reflecting the fusion of heritage and contemporary life. At the same time, Adjei Tawiah’s large-scale works explore personal and intimate connections that transcend cultural boundaries, embodying the evolving and hybrid nature of African identity in a globalised world.
Urban and social narratives
A recurring theme throughout the exhibition is the exploration of urbanisation and its impact on the social fabric of African societies. Aboudia’s graffiti-filled canvases pulse with the chaotic energy of Africa’s bustling metropolises, where beauty and hardship coexist. In contrast, Amani Bodo and Armand Boua explore themes of migration, resilience and the vulnerability of marginalised communities, presenting deeply human stories that resonate globally while remaining distinctly African.
Materiality and innovation
Innovative use of materials is a feature of the exhibition, highlighting the ingenuity and creativity of the participating artists. Yeanzi Saint Etienne’s bold use of molten plastic as a medium expresses both a critique of consumer culture and a redefinition of the artistic process. Similarly, Sejiro Avoseh’s collages and Salifou Lindou’s pastel compositions demonstrate a willingness to challenge the established while remaining rooted in cultural narratives, celebrating the dynamic interplay between tradition and modernity.

The power of colour, texture and composition
At the heart of Voices of Africa is an explosive vitality that embodies the essence of African art. The artists’ works are rich in texture, depth and symbolism, offering the viewer an exhilarating experience. From Amadou Opa Bathily’s contemplative explorations of the human condition to the electric, layered imagery of Aboudia and Boris Nzebo, the exhibition highlights African art’s ability to channel both emotional intensity and visual dynamism. Taken together, these works not only celebrate the aesthetic richness of the continent, but also engage in critical dialogues about its present and future.
Voices of Africa is both a celebration and an exploration – a space where the vibrant polyphony of African artistic voices comes alive. These works speak not only to Africa’s evolving cultural identities, but also to its resilience, innovation and capacity for transformation.
