On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the exhibition “Taking up space” will be held in the beautiful neoclassical building at 65 Patission Street.
Taking up space as a woman means recognizing that your voice has value and deserves to be heard. And when women and feminine identities begin to claim their space—both in private and public spheres—the world becomes a little more beautiful, a little more just.
This exhibition is inspired by that. Creative production studio Bouclé, which is organizing the exhibition for the second year, says that “International Women’s Day is a day that has become quite commercialized, escaping from its militant roots and becoming a capricious occasion for promotion and consumerism, flowers and ‘happy birthday‘. So we are here to remind that International Women’s Day is about women’s struggle for equality and to give space and voice to women’s work in the arts.

The exhibition will feature twelve female artists working in a variety of art forms including photography, film, painting, sculpture and textiles, giving visitors the opportunity to engage with a variety of different works and approaches.
The exhibition will run for two days on March 8 and 9 (Saturday 14:00-22:00 & Sunday 12:00-20:00). Music will be provided by different DJs each day, and a bar will be set up for beer and wine.
A percentage of the proceeds from the bar will be donated to the Diotima Center.

The venue is a beautiful neoclassical building in the heart of Athens. It was built in 1923. The size and form of this particular building marked a turning point in the evolving urban landscape of Athens at the time. It is characterized by a fluid style of late eclecticism, and in recent years has been home to the Stavrakos Film School.
