“Painting Tsarouchis and Other Stories”: Kostas Papatriantafyllopoulos at Tsantilis Art Gallery

1 min read

Tsantilis Art Gallery presents the exhibition “Painting Tsarouchis and Other Stories”, an important showcase dedicated to the work of painter Kostas Papatriantafyllopoulos — an artist whose practice bridges Greek tradition with contemporary European painting.

The exhibition “Painting Tsarouchis and Other Stories” highlights the artist’s ability to transform light, atmosphere and everyday moments into vivid, poetic experiences. Featuring works in oil, crayons and mixed media, the exhibition draws inspiration from Athens and the natural world: sunsets, the Acropolis, flowers and still lifes. Each work functions as a small pause in time, inviting the viewer into a moment of aesthetic contemplation.

His works frequently appear in major international auction houses in Greece and abroad, underscoring the growing international recognition and demand for his oeuvre.

About the Artist

Papatriantafyllopoulos studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts before continuing his studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He was both a student and close friend of Yannis Tsarouchis, a relationship that deeply influenced his artistic path. At the same time, he developed a strong foundation in Byzantine painting, having extensively studied the technique of egg tempera as well as the work of Fotis Kontoglou.

Today, art historians and collectors regard him as one of the last major Greek artists associated with the School of Paris and one of the most important living masters of 20th-century Greek painting.
