CINEFIX #HEAT: The hottest summer screenings on the EMST rooftop

1 min read

This June and July, the rooftop of the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST) transforms once again into one of the city’s most atmospheric open-air cinemas. Under the title CINEFIX #HEAT, the programme explores the many meanings of heat, from rising summer temperatures and restless nights to burning desires, dangerous seductions and explosive passions.

Bringing together film noir classics, cult favourites and art-house masterpieces, the programme presents films set in sweltering cities, humid apartments and emotionally charged worlds where the weather becomes an active force in the story. Here, heat is never merely a backdrop; it becomes tension, obsession, longing and delirium.

Against the backdrop of illuminated Athenian summer nights, Hollywood classics meet European modernism, while noir cinema encounters sensual dramas and existential thrillers. As the programme playfully suggests, some films are simply better experienced during a heatwave.
