DEI The Butterfly Trail is “spreading its wings” and traveling to Thessaloniki
After its successful run in Athens, DEI The Butterfly Trail is “spreading its wings” and traveling to Thessaloniki, inviting visitors of all ages to experience a mixed reality journey that brings together science, nature, and technology through an innovative lens.
From October 15 to November 15, Xarchakos Park will be transformed into a spectacular installation, where visitors can discover the story of Dr. Pelegrin, a scientist and botanist who brought rare butterfly species from Peru, creating a digital “greenhouse” that began its journey in London, continued in Athens, and now lands in Thessaloniki.
In this impressive “botanical garden,” visitors can interact with butterflies through their smartphone screens. By scanning a QR code, they download an AR app that allows them to “feed” the chrysalises with nectar ampoules. This process magically transforms the chrysalises into colorful butterflies that fly digitally around them, crafting a mesmerizing visual scene. At the end of the trail, visitors can take souvenir photos surrounded by these vibrant butterflies in a specially designed photo area – a unique fusion of technology and imagination.

DEI The Butterfly Trail is open to the public daily from 15:00 to 21:00, and on weekends from 10:00 to 21:00. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes and accommodates groups of up to 40 people, allowing everyone to enjoy this extraordinary experience free of charge.
Bringing the fantastical world of the renowned botanist to Thessaloniki, DEI The Butterfly Trail connects art, science, and environmental awareness, “transporting” visitors of all ages into a world of wonder.

Through this immersive experience, DEI highlights the importance of innovation in environmental protection and fosters a deeper ecological consciousness, laying the foundations for a more sustainable tomorrow.
