KINO Athens and TAF / the art foundation are joining forces to launch The Deer Film Club, a new screening series that transforms TAF into a meeting point for film lovers, artists, filmmakers and curious audiences. Combining curated screenings with discussions and guest appearances, the initiative aims to foster a shared cinematic experience while exploring independent and contemporary filmmaking.
Hosted at TAF’s distinctive cultural venue in central Athens, The Deer Film Club approaches cinema as more than entertainment. Each event invites audiences to engage with film as a social, political and artistic medium through screenings accompanied by introductions, conversations with invited guests and open discussions. The programme will spotlight independent cinema, cult classics, experimental works, documentaries and contemporary international productions, creating an ongoing platform for dialogue and exchange.
The collaboration between KINO Athens and TAF also seeks to strengthen Athens’ independent cultural scene by encouraging new connections between cinema and contemporary artistic practice. Additional screening themes, special guests and future programme details will be announced through the organisations’ official communication channels.

The opening event, on Wednesday 22 July at 21:30, features a programme of three short films. WASSUPKAYLEE by Pepi Ginsberg follows a teenage TikTok influencer navigating the pressures of online fame and belonging. Brazilian filmmaker Luiz Afonso Moreda presents Works and Nights, a quiet meditation on grief and loss, while Greek director Dimitris Vavatsis’ psychological coming-of-age thriller Gumboro explores isolation, anxiety and the unsettling secrets hidden behind the doors of an Athenian apartment building. Vavatsis and members of the film’s creative team will attend the screening for a discussion with the audience.

Founded in Athens, KINO Athens is dedicated to promoting film culture through screenings, events and collaborative projects centred on independent and contemporary cinema. TAF / the art foundation is a multidisciplinary cultural space supporting exhibitions, performances and community-focused artistic initiatives in the heart of the city.
