Sunday, May 17, 2026

On Sunday, May 17, the Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the regular general admission ticket and will present the special event “Acropolis Museum: Small Unknown Stories from the Journey of an International Museum.”

The Educational Programs Department, in collaboration with the Department of Conservation of Antiquities, will share unique moments and memories from the history of the Museum and its collections: the construction of the contemporary building, the curatorial vision behind the exhibition program, the transfer of exhibits from the old museum to the new one, conservation practices, the intricate details behind the installation of the artworks, and the people working behind the scenes.

This retrospective journey sheds light on the details that shaped the Museum’s identity. The Museum reintroduces itself as a living vessel of the history of the Acropolis and as an ongoing invitation for dialogue and exchange between people and cultures. The presentation includes a guided tour through the Museum’s exhibition galleries led by an archaeologist and a conservator, as well as a digital presentation at the Educational Center.

Information:
Sunday 17/5, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (in Greek)
Duration: 120 minutes
Up to 30 visitors per presentation

Advance online booking is required (bookings open Monday 11/5 at 10 a.m.) via Acropolis Museum Events Platform, along with the purchase of the daily admission ticket from the Museum ticket counters on the day of the presentation.

On Monday, May 18, the Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering free admission to all exhibition galleries.

On this occasion, the Museum will participate for the first time in the international Piano City Athens festival with a piano recital by Manos Kitsikopoulos on the mezzanine of the second floor overlooking the Gallery of Archaic Sculptures.

Manos Kitsikopoulos is a versatile pianist rooted in classical music with remarkable artistic flexibility across different musical genres. He has received the DipRAM distinction and an award from the Academy of Athens, while also winning the Grand Prix at the international Clamo competition in Spain. He has collaborated with orchestras such as the Janáček Philharmonic and the Athens State Orchestra, and teaches at the Athens Conservatoire as well as at the Sorbas Summer Academy in Andalusia.

For the Acropolis Museum, the pianist has curated a program featuring beloved works alongside his own solo piano transcriptions.
