Encardia bring their Mediterranean celebration to the Megaron Garden

1 min read

After twenty-two years of performances across Greece and abroad, Encardia return with an open-air concert that blends Southern Italian traditions, Greek folk music, poetry, and dance into an immersive celebration.

Some concerts invite you to listen. Others invite you to become part of the experience.

On Saturday, July 4, the Megaron Athens Concert Hall Garden welcomes Encardia, one of Greece’s most distinctive music and dance ensembles, for an evening that promises far more than a conventional concert. With twenty-two years of continuous artistic activity, thousands of performances in Greece and internationally, seven albums, two music-theatre productions and an acclaimed documentary behind them, the group continues to reinvent itself while remaining deeply rooted in the musical traditions that shaped its identity.

For this special summer performance, Encardia opens up its expansive repertoire, travelling from the vibrant musical heritage of Southern Italy-long at the heart of the ensemble’s artistic language-to the richness of Greek folk tradition. The programme also introduces new interpretations of works by Greek poets, creating a journey that moves from nostalgia to an exuberant musical celebration.

What has always distinguished Encardia is their ability to erase the boundary between performers and audience. Music, dance and storytelling unfold collectively, inviting spectators to sing, dance and participate alongside the ensemble’s dancers. Rather than presenting folklore as a museum piece, Encardia transforms tradition into a living, communal experience where every performance becomes a shared celebration.

The concert is a co-production of the Megaron Athens Concert Hall and Encardia, taking place in the lush surroundings of the Megaron Garden, one of Athens’ favourite open-air summer venues.
