“Within the Circle of Tsarouchis, Part II”: A group exhibition of ASFA students at the Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation

1 min read

A diverse array of paintings, photographs, sculptural objects, videos, installations, and handcrafted books—each drawing inspiration from the art of Yannis Tsarouchis and the evocative atmosphere of his former home

The group exhibition Within the Circle of Tsarouchis, Part II opens on Saturday, June 14, at the Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation. Featuring works by students and recent graduates of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), the exhibition marks the second chapter of a collaborative project launched in 2022 between the Foundation and the ASFA Career Office.

Building on the success of the 2023 inaugural show, this ongoing partnership invites the public deeper into “the circle” of Tsarouchis—a master who never stopped learning. Through regular meetings, participating artists explored the artist’s archive, writings, scenography, poetry, painting, and tapestries, engaging with his creative legacy not as a monument, but as fertile ground for dialogue and reinterpretation.

This second edition brings together a wide range of artistic practices: painting, photography, installations, handmade books, video, and sculptural works. All draw inspiration from Tsarouchis’ multifaceted oeuvre and from the very space that once served as his home and studio—a house he designed himself in 1965 and which opened annually to the public with a new exhibition.

The program was coordinated by visual artist and theater scholar Vasso Tzouti (Head of Educational Programs at the Foundation) and Associate Professor Kostas Christopoulos (Department of Visual Arts, ASFA), in close collaboration with the Foundation. From October 2024, following an open call, students and graduates from both the Visual Arts and Art Theory & History departments took part in a process of study, discovery, and artistic response.
