The a.antonopoulou.art gallery presents the new solo exhibition by Dr. Yannis Tzortzis titled “Greenland: Blue Ice”, held under the auspices of the Embassy of Denmark in Greece.
The exhibition focuses on Greenland, the world’s largest and most climate-sensitive island, often described as the “Global Climate Change Barometer.” Through environmental and experiential photographs from UNESCO World Heritage sites and the everyday life of the Indigenous Inuit people, Tzortzis captures the fragile relationship between humans and landscape.
The photographer participated in the BLUE ICE “green photographic journey” of the environmental non-profit organization GREEN PROJECT, which took place in Greenland in August 2024, under the auspices of the Greek National Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the Danish National Commission for UNESCO.
Through his images, Dr. Yannis Tzortzis seeks to raise awareness about the urgent consequences of climate change in Greenland’s uniquely beautiful but extremely vulnerable landscapes.
The ice turns blue just before it melts.
*The NGO GREEN PROJECT was founded in 2008 by the voluntary initiative of active scientists and artists. It has carried out 10 “green photographic journeys” under the auspices of the Greek National Commission for UNESCO, in Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, the Ionian Sea, Australia, Madagascar, West Africa, Greenland and India, to awaken social consciousness through environmental photography as a vehicle for change. 69 experts traveled 88,861 km and 979 nautical miles, in 53 countries, with 16 low-emission cars, 1 sailboat, 1 icebreaker and public transport. Next stop: Japan.
