Exhibition “Both”: Two artists negotiating the anthropocentric visual gaze

1 min read

The exhibition is characterised by a strong modern aesthetic line of expressionism as it was expressed in the 20th century and continues to this day.
Faces and bodies, colours that stimulate the imagination and “disturb” scepticism, comic forms and representations of a reality that has a lively rhythm, emotion and is related to the bohemian side of the intellect. An attempt at verisimilitude by the wise children.

Maro Zacharogianni and Yannos Danakos are expressionist painters. They have similarities and differences. Yannos Danakos follows the flow of writing and the forms unfold through working, guided by the adventure of the material. Maro Zacharogianni, on the other hand, follows a more cerebral process, sketching out her subject in her mind before intervening. Both have a spontaneous approach to a given subject. The writing is characterised by an emotional anxiety, as reality is presented as distorted and contradicts the classical form of representation. Both artists in the exhibition are purely anthropocentric, the vector of their inspiration is the human form, so the paintings presented are portraits and full-length figures.

Maro Zacharogianni is a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts and Middlesex University. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and performances in Greece and abroad.

Yiannos Danakos is a graduate of the Department of Communication and Media of the Kapodistrian University, a graduate of the Athens State School of Dance and a graduate of the Acting Workshop of Akis Davis. He has had 5 solo painting exhibitions. He has directed, choreographed and performed in 5 productions with his group The Danes. He has danced with many Greek and foreign choreographers.

Performance “Chocolate Jesus”

The performance Chocolate Jesus is a structured improvisation with a musical background, the title track by Tom Waits. Dirfi Yatzouzaki, the young dancer, has a degree and a master’s degree in biology and is a graduate of the professional dance school “Choros”.
