ONX Futures – Intro Bootcamp 2025: A new era of moving image begins at Onassis Ready

2 mins read

From Friday 21 to Sunday 23 November, Onassis ONX presents ONX Futures: AI & Mixed Reality in Moving Image, a new skills-development program aimed at professionals in the audiovisual field.

Onassis ONX invites directors, filmmakers, producers, advertisers, photographers and videographers, VFX artists, and musicians to rethink the grammar of moving image, and to reconsider the ethical and legal questions emerging in the age of algorithms and co-creation through artificial intelligence.

Focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Realities, the program presented at Onassis Ready, the Onassis Foundation’s new space in Agios Ioannis Rentis offers creators up-to-date knowledge and practical tools to deeply understand how emerging technologies are transforming the production, storytelling, and distribution of audiovisual works.

What is the future of cinematic storytelling, and what is the future of moving image in the social media era? Who is ultimately the author of a work when it is co-created with Artificial Intelligence? How do Mixed Realities reshape the production of moving images?

The program launches with an intensive introductory Bootcamp from 21 to 23 November at the new Onassis ONX space in Athens, Onassis Ready, presenting the main thematic pillars:
– the new grammar of moving image,
– the creative potential of algorithmic systems,
– and the ethical, copyright, and legal issues emerging in the era of AI co-creation.

It examines the role of Artificial Intelligence at every stage of the production process from development and scriptwriting to post-production and introduces participants to the use of Mixed Reality environments as new tools for creation and storytelling.

The Bootcamp features international speakers and industry specialists, including Cyril Foiret (Maison Meta), Hanna Nina Jameson (Writer), Gillian Leitten (The Lumen Prize), Giorgos Roussos (NMR), Eugenia Bozou (Google), Konstantina Kotzamani, Aristotelis Maragkos, and other experienced creators and representatives of leading tech organizations.

After the three-day program, weekly online hands-on masterclasses will follow, focusing on the two thematic pillars (Artificial Intelligence and Virtual–Mixed Production), specialized in different stages of the production pipeline, taught by Matthew Rader, Athens Surreal (Tina Marinaki), Andrea Gatopoulos, Michaela Ternasky-Holland, Sam Pressman, and other acclaimed creators.

Upon completion, an internal Open Call will take place among participants, who will be invited to submit proposals for an audiovisual work they wish to develop using these tools. Selected works will receive seed funding of up to €3,000 to develop and present their project at the ONX Athens Showcase, in May at Onassis Ready.
