6th Contemporary Dance Festival “Compartments Dance Project”:Two weeks of dance performances at the Railway Carriage Theater

The Contemporary Dance Festival “Compartments Dance Project” returns for its 6th edition, from September 21 to October 5, with two weeks of daily dance performances at the Railway Carriage Theater – To Treno sto Rouf.

The festival is an initiative of Tatiana Lygari, who in 2016 envisioned the Compartments Dance Project as a sub-festival of the Young Artists Festival “The 12 Coupés.” Since then, and every year, it has taken place inside the carriages and open-air spaces of the historic train, with the aim of exploring the relationship between contemporary dance and the notion of space, while also showcasing emerging artistic voices.

This year’s theme focuses on the challenges arising from the technological invasion of life and the environment, as well as the ongoing transformation of human experience. Anxiety, haste, overstimulation, violence, technological saturation, artificial intelligence. How does the body react within an environment of pressure and change? Where does resistance lie? What are the limits of adaptation? And how can humans coexist—both with their new selves and with the “other”?

Festival Artistic Director Tatiana Lygari notes: “Contemporary dance, by its very nature, converses with the present time, expressing ways of adaptation, reactions, tensions, and ultimately transformations, posing the questions of the here and now. This year, we invited young dancers to explore the body as a malleable and vulnerable field, as a site of both resistance and adaptation, in a world that changes rapidly and often violently. I am certain that the result of their work will be, as every year, unpredictable, daring, and deeply moving—confirming the power of dance as a living, contemporary art form, while offering them valuable experience and the audience genuine enjoyment.”

Within this framework, young dancers, choreographers, and contemporary dance companies, supported by the Railway Carriage Theater, present short performances (15–30 minutes) with free admission. These performances unfold daily in a rotating program across the unique spaces of the train carriages and on the open-air “Platform” stage, creating a vibrant encounter between the city’s new artistic forces and the public.
