Fresh coffee, slow mornings, and handmade flavors. komu by Pavlos Sfikakis makes every breakfast your own
On Veikou Street in Koukaki, the air smells of freshly ground coffee and baked cookies. It’s called komu – from the Greek “δικό μου,” (diko mou) meaning mine – and behind it is chef Pavlos Sfikakis, known for his company Pepper & Sugar, which specializes in tailor-made private catering concepts. komu is his first personal venture in Athens: a small, handcrafted project filled with love, travel, and flavors that carry memories.
A space devoted to breakfast – to that perfect first sip, exactly as you imagine it.
“I always wanted a small place in the city center,” Pavlos says. “I’ve lived here for the past twelve years, I walk around Koukaki all the time, and when I saw this spot available, I just knew it was the moment.” Together with his partner Olivia Webb and Art Director Ioulia Kotsifaki, they created a 22-seat coffee-brunch place, “like a little nest,” as they call it.

The atmosphere is warm and earthy: terracotta tiles, yellow tables, hand-painted iron surfaces, and a color palette that balances between beige, green, pink, and clay. Every object has its own story – from the small frames they brought from Oslo to the coffee machine, the same model Pavlos saw in countless cafés across Copenhagen and decided to bring to Athens. “I want to walk in every morning and feel that everything reminds me of something. Every detail has a reason to exist,” he says.

The menu comes without fixed recipes. Guests create their own brunch board: five categories – bread, eggs, proteins, vegetables, and sweets – from which they can design their own combination. The ingredients come from small Greek producers, while the desserts and drinks hide subtle travel references: a cinnamon roll with their own spice blend, a bun with mastiha, lemon, and mandarin inspired by Chios (Pavlos’s island of origin), and his personal favorite – the Fonkie: a signature cookie that combines cookie dough and chocolate fondant. “We first tried it in Paris, brought it to Athens, made it our own – and it’s pure bliss!” he laughs.

The café collaborates with Wise Cup Roasters for its specialty coffee, while the custom-made cocktails are curated by Markos Priftis of Ham On Rye. komu is open Wednesday to Friday from 8:00 to 17:00 and weekends from 9:00 to 18:00, with no delivery service – at least for now.
“komu is for everyone,” Pavlos says. “For friends, travelers, couples, and students. I wanted a place where everyone fits in – and where they can create something of their own.”
