Her Voice: Myrto Papathanasiou Opens “Jazz at the Museum” at the Goulandris Foundation

1 min read

After five successful years, the beloved concert series Jazz at the Museum of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation returns to the Foundation’s Auditorium with an expanded vision. Under the title Her Voice, this year’s edition opens up to new musical paths, embracing classical music, lyrical singing, and other forms of expression that highlight the timeless power of the musical art.

The series opens on Friday, October 24, with award-winning soprano Myrto Papathanasiou, who will explore breath and sigh through songs and arias of the Italian and French repertoire, accompanied by Dimitris Giakas on piano. In this timeless interplay between light and shadow, silence and sound, breath and sigh, each piece becomes a small theatrical scene where voice and accompaniment give form to the depths of the human soul.

Soprano Myrto Papathanasiou has appeared in some of the world’s most prestigious theaters and concert halls, collaborating with renowned conductors and orchestras. She was awarded the “Maria Callas – Best Young Artist” prize for her performance in La Traviata in Dallas, and in 2011 she performed at the Closing Ceremony of the Special Olympics in Athens. Recent highlights include her appearance as Elisabetta in Donizetti’s large-scale production La Bastarda at La Monnaie in Brussels, as well as Tosca on tour in France. She made her debut as Madama Butterfly in Catania and Ancona, and as part of the celebrations for the centenary of Maria Callas, she was invited to perform galas in Milan, Palermo, Florence, the Rome Opera, and beyond.
