Contemporary Greek Ceramics takes centre stage at BIBAF26 in Corsica

Contemporary Greek ceramics will take centre stage this August in Corsica as Greece becomes the guest country of honour at the 2026 edition of the Biennale Internationale des Arts du Feu de Bonifacio (BIBAF), one of the Mediterranean’s leading events dedicated to ceramics and fire arts. Running from 1 to 31 August at the historic Espace Saint-Jacques in Bonifacio, the exhibition highlights the vitality and diversity of Greece’s contemporary ceramic scene.

Presented under the title KALLISTE – Corso Greek, the exhibition brings together five artists –Chrysanthi Lymberaiou, Kyriaki Moustaki, Liana Papalexis, Georges Pontikis and Stratos (Efstratios) Zargklis– whose practices reflect the breadth of contemporary Greek ceramics and glass, balancing material experimentation with cultural memory and sculptural expression.

The title Kalliste, meaning “the most beautiful”, was the ancient Greek name for Corsica and serves as a symbolic bridge between Greece and the island, highlighting centuries of shared Mediterranean history while opening a dialogue between heritage and contemporary artistic practice.

The exhibition is co-curated by Olivier Plique and Eléonore Trenado-Finetis, founder of Greek Ceramix Contemporary and Mon Coin Studio in Athens, alongside BIBAF founder and artistic director Jean-François Baggioni (Zani). Together, they present a snapshot of a contemporary Greek ceramics scene that continues to evolve while remaining rooted in one of the oldest ceramic traditions in the Mediterranean.

The exhibition opens on 1 August at 7:00 pm in the presence of the participating artists.

More than a national showcase, KALLISTE – Corso Greek highlights the growing international visibility of contemporary Greek ceramics, placing it in dialogue with one of the Mediterranean’s leading events dedicated to fire arts.
