Aphrodite Liti transforms CITRONNE Gallery Poros into a dreamlike sculptural landscape

The Challenge of Emergence, the artist’s fourth exhibition with CITRONNE Gallery, unfolds across two immersive installations inspired by the sea, myth and memory.

From shimmering marine passages to an oversized ring inhabited by lizards, Aphrodite Liti’s new solo exhibition at CITRONNE Gallery Poros invites visitors into a sculptural world where reality and imagination continuously overlap. Running until 13 September 2026, The Challenge of Emergence expands sculpture beyond the object, transforming both the gallery and its courtyard into environments of reflection, movement and poetic transformation.

Rather than presenting individual works, Liti conceives the exhibition as a unified experience. Familiar motifs from her long-established visual vocabulary -including swimmers, dolphins, shells, boats, rings and lizards– reappear in new relationships, shifting in scale and reflected through light to create an ever-changing landscape where mythology, nature and memory coexist.

The exhibition’s title refers to emergence as the moment when hidden emotions, memories and desires rise to the surface. At the same time, it suggests the challenge of freedom itself. Throughout the installation, reflections, changing perspectives and unexpected scale invite visitors to move between the tangible and the imaginary.

Inside the gallery, the elongated exhibition hall becomes an interior marine route. Murano glass tesserae and metallic surfaces scatter light across the walls and floor, dissolving the physical boundaries of each sculpture and extending them into the surrounding space. The installation unfolds as a sensory environment where visitors become active participants rather than distant observers.

The experience continues outdoors in the gallery’s lush courtyard, where an oversized sculptural ring accompanied by two monumental lizards introduces a different atmosphere. Here, natural vegetation, symbolic references and sculptural forms merge, reinforcing Liti’s ongoing exploration of transformation and the dialogue between the organic and the artificial.

This new exhibition also continues a trajectory developed through Liti’s recent projects. Following The Dreamlike and the Dream: The Pollinators of Life at CITRONNE Gallery Athens (2024) and Proirosia in Eleusis (2025), The Challenge of Emergence shifts its focus from the earthbound landscape towards the maritime environment of Poros, allowing the island itself to become part of the exhibition’s interpretation.

Working between sculpture, installation and environmental experience, Aphrodite Liti continues to explore how matter, light and myth can reshape the way we perceive space. Rather than illustrating mythology, she treats it as living material, something fluid that can be transformed through memory, reflection and imagination into new contemporary narratives.
