1 min read

Two distinctive artistic voices meet on stage as Savina Giannatou and Spyros Manesis come together for an intimate live performance at THEATRE OF THE NO. Voice and piano engage in a finely tuned dialogue, moving freely across musical traditions and emotional landscapes, in a concert that foregrounds listening, subtlety, and the shared act of creation

Renowned Greek vocalist Savina Yannatou and pianist Spyros Manesis meet on stage on Sunday, January 11 at 21.00, at the Theatre of the NO. Under the title “Seathrough”, Savina Yannatou performs songs from the Mediterranean in various languages and dialects, while also presenting compositions by Greek composers. Through a live, improvisational dialogue with Spyros Manesis, different musical worlds coexist, creating a unique and evocative performance.

Savina Yannatou, internationally acclaimed, stands out for her ability to bridge Mediterranean tradition with contemporary and experimental forms. Born and raised in Athens, she began her professional career in the radio series “Here is Lillipoupoli”, performing songs by Lena Platonos, with whom she subsequently collaborated closely for many years (“Sabotage,” “Karyotakis – 13 Songs,” among others).

In the 1990s, she turned to ethnic music with the ensemble Primavera en Salonico (Spring in Salonica – Songs of the Mediterranean – Panagies of the World, etc.), recording for the labels LYRA and ECM and participating in numerous festivals around the world. Through her long-standing involvement in the international free jazz scene, she has also been able to combine free improvisation with different musical genres. She has collaborated with many important composers in Greece and abroad and has composed music for theater and cinema.

Spyros Manesis belongs to the new generation of Greek jazz musicians. He is a jazz pianist and composer, with studies in classical and jazz piano in Athens and at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He has appeared at festivals and concerts in Europe, America, and Asia, collaborating with leading musicians and orchestras.

As a soloist, he has performed with symphonic and contemporary orchestras in Greece and abroad. He was a founding member of the Spiral Trio, with which he has released two albums and represented Greece at the Athens Jazz Festival 2023. As a leader, he has released six albums on international record labels. He teaches jazz piano at the Jazzart School and at the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
