An installation featuring floating, fragmented images that capture bursts of explosions, forming a fleeting geometry
Zoumboulakis Gallery presents the third solo exhibition of Katerina Stefanidakis, entitled “Safe Ground”, from 14 November to 7 December.
Katerina Stefanidaki presents an installation entitled “Safe Ground”. The installation consists of three-dimensional surfaces made of materials often used in her paintings such as paper, charcoal and wood. These surfaces are the height of the gallery and create short, winding paths that visitors are invited to follow. The two-dimensional drawings are at different angles and positions in space, but the movement of the viewer allows them to be composed into a single image, evoking a landscape that has been blown up. That is to say, floating, fragmented images appear, depicting fragments of explosions, creating a momentary geometry. The installation is accompanied by drawings, models and audio-visual material.
The exhibition “Safe Ground” is Katerina Stefanidaki’s third solo presentation at Zoumboulakis Gallery, following the exhibitions “Patision 179”, 2008 and “This is the Place, Gentlemen!”, 2015, while the research and elaboration of the relevant themes has its starting point in the presentation of her work “Mine” in the group exhibition “Pause”, Zoumboulakis Gallery, 2017.
